120 MB Smartdrive (250-4127) Configuring the Drive Faxback Doc. # 5062

After all internal options are installed in the computer, you must run the
computer's setup utility to reconfigure the system for the options.

Use the setup utility to configure the drive as a non-standard or standard
drive. To configure the drive as a non-standard drive, enter the following
information when running the setup utility:

Cylinders [872]

Heads [8]

Head Landing Zone [0]

Sectors [35]

If your system setup has an IDE option or supports a drive type definition
option, use one of those options. Refer to your computer user's guide for
specific information about the setup program.

If your system setup utility does not support a drive type definition
options, then select any drive type that does not exceed the total number
of sectors of your drive. To calculate the total number of sectors for a
given drive type, multiply the sectors per track by the number of heads by
the number of cylinders.

The following is an example of a drive type and the information displayed
during setup:

  Type 9 900 cylinders 15 head 17 sectors

Type 9 has 229,500 user sectors. It does not exceed the number of user
sectors of the 120MB drive. Your computer dealer will calculate the
sectors and configure the drive for you if you choose not to do so your-
self.
