~Premier Manager 3

PLAYING TIPS By Martin Keen

The third game in the series may be the best but its also by far the
hardest. But don't fear, there's no need for your Chairman to do the
same as every Premiership club in the bottom half of the table
(they've all sacked their manager within the last year) just follow
these guidelines:

~Playing Position Tips

DEFENCE

 * Put them on long shooting - after all, how often do they get near
   the goal?

 * Set passing to roughly 70% unless you fancy them dribbling the ball
out of the penalty area (not advisable for those with a weak heart)

MIDFIELD

 * Put shooting to long if you want the opportunity to see spectacular
curling shots from 30 yards out.

 * Set the passing to 60% unless you are planning to become the next
Wimbledon - in which case it doesn't matter what you do to the
midfield because the ball will be constantly flying over their
   heads.

ATTACK

 * Put shooting to medium apart from the player wearing the number 9
shirt. This guy is your key to scoring success so set him to short
range shooting which will allow him to pick up any loose balls in
the box and slot them away Gary Lineker style. Therefore make sure
your best striker plays as number 9.

 * Set running to roughly 75% and have passing as short.

~General Playing Tips

 * Start as Halifax Town as this team have the best chance of escaping
from the Conference at the first attempt. Their strikers are the
   best in the division.

 * Sell your dodgy older player first to raise cash. Its best to keep
your youth players as they improve quickly.

 * Be sure to play every member of the squad in at least four matches
during the season. This will improve their stats during the close
season no end. Especially important for youth players.

 * Hire the best staff within the club's budget and upgrade the gym to
   improve the coaches performances.

 * Buying players over the phone is an advantage as out-of-contract
players can be found at bargain basement prices.

 * Make sure all players who are not injured are training, and keep
morale high by giving at least 7 financial bonuses to every player
   within a season.

 * Make good use of the player loan option.

~The Most Important Tip Of All

ALWAYS PICK YOUR BEST PLAYERS. It may seem obvious but even the most
prestigeous and important managers in the country don't always follow
this rule. For instance if you had a player who had scored more goals
in the last five seasons than anyone else in the Premier league, put
away 30 goals this season alone, and didn't even play in attack you
would pick him wouldn't you? Not necessarily, Terry Venables wouldn't.
Just ask Matt Le Tissier!
