Tips to get you started
-----------------------

By Lu Richardson

General:

Take time to learn to manoeuver the character as soon as you have
the opportunity, particularly in combat mode. Remember that
positioning your guy correctly is absolutely essential. Since at
first you have no means of healing him other than by pressing D and
"active", try to lose as few hit points as possible. You can
achieve this by having "dry runs", having saved previously, and then
reloading and trying again. Actually, if you do things right, you
should not lose many hit points. Save everytime you sort something
out and before you venture where you have not been before. Pick up
everything up and examine it by having it "ready" and "using" it, i.
e., pressing the space bar. Use the options (press P) to read the
journal as often as you can remember, just to keep track.

THE CELL
--------

OK, you all know how to get out of this one. Press C immediately
you are up, press ALT + 7 or 9 (of the keypad) and when the robot is
destroyed, pick up the meat and the log. Read it (i.e., stand
before it, press ENTER to pick it up, press the space bar to "use"
it). Save. Stand close to the bars and pick your moment to step
out - the instant the bars disappear.

THE CELLBLOCK
-------------

Avoiding the dripping fluid from the ceiling, go to the next door
cell (01). The guy inside is 'armless, har har. He will shout at
you that you cannot have his fork. Leave the blue arm where it is.
Save. Stand close to the bars. Wait till the guy moves away from
the entrance, pick your moment and go through the door. Move
quickly in to get away from the bars, press C and ALT + 7 or 9. You
should have no trouble with him. Pick up the photo, the log and the
fork. Again, step outside with care.

Go to the main door and use the fork on the box to the right of it.
Press I to put the fork away in the inventory. Use the box. You
will see a row of round switches along the bottom. DO NOT press the
second one from the left. Start from the right and attempt to move
the blocks into a row along the second line from the bottom. Use
the second switch from the left last. There are several
combinations to unlock the door, but this one should do the trick.

THE CONTROL ROOM
----------------

"Use" the door to open it. Go immediately to the right and use the
red button to turn it into green. Now go up the stairs and use each
screen to turn off the force bars of all the cells - one of them
won't work but don't worry about it. The middle screen gives some
info. Go down the stairs and look at all the monitors, including
the panel by the other door.

Go back to the cells and enter the one which is now open (04), pick
up the flute and the log. Read this log - it contains a security
number (which changes every time you play). Go back to the control
room.

Go to the last monitor behind the counter and use it. Press MANUAL
to gain control of the robot and, using the arrows, move him out of
the cell and into the passage. Take him to where the arm is and
place him in position in front of it. Click on the first symbol on
the top right hand corner of the screen to get him to pick the arm
up. This may take a while! Once he has it, move him to the panel
by the other door and, while facing it, click on the second symbol
to get him to use the arm on the panel. This places the dead
man's hand on the screen. Press EXIT.

Go to the first monitor behind the counter and select ACCESS. Type
the number you got from the log. Now go to the door and step on the
plate under the panel. The door will open. Save your game.

THE CORRIDOR
------------

Step in, hug the right wall and enter the elevator recess. The
monster robot should go by without harming you. Go immediately to
the right and go through the open door.

THE CRYOGENICS CHAMBER
______________________

Examine the panel by the door. Go to the right till you can see
the red button and the blue wheel. Press the red button and the
iris dome will open up. Use the wheel and you will drain some
fluid. When you hear a warning, use the wheel to turn of the fluid
and press the red button to close the dome. Go back to the door.
Save. Use the panel to check Chamber 1 and, when you exit, be
ready to fight.

A chamber opens and a monster comes out to play. Advance slightly,
press C and then CRTL + 9 to kick your way towards the red button.
Once you are there, with the monster in hot pursuit, switch to CTRL
+ 7 or anything you like; you should knock him out and he should
collapse on top of the dome (if not, try again). Press the red
button and he should fall through. When you hear a row going on,
use the wheel to drain the freezing liquid onto the parties down
below. When all is quiet, use the wheel again. Step gingerly
towards the steps and "use" them.

THE UNDERGROUND PASSAGE
-----------------------

Walk left along the platform taking great care not to fall off -
towards the end you cannot see your character very clearly, so go
slowly. You should come to three openings. Ignore the other two
and move towards the right hand side one. Save. Keep pushing and
you should climb up - you have to be in the right spot to do so. Be
prepared. There is a brief conversation, and then you go into
combat. Punching is better than kicking, here, but it's up to you.
Once the guy is out, pick up the blaster. Now, that's a lot better.

Go back the way you came to the Cryogenics room, stop inside the
door. Save.

THE ELEVATOR
------------

It can be done, I promise you. Try and try again. Step out of the
room, apply the character's right shoulder to the wall and follow it
closely till you get to the elevator; hide in the recess till the
robot is gone, then use the panel to open the doors. Go inside the
elevator and hide to the left of the door. Press C and wait till
the robot goes by, then press 5 to blast him. Sometimes a few shots
does for him. If he should turn on you, then the only way is to
shoot at the elevator in such a way that the shots rebound onto the
robot. Hopeless as I am at that sort of thing, I managed to destroy
the robot before it had a chance to turn on me, and with no loss of
hit points. So, it may be worth your while to try several times.

FLOOR 1
-------

Once you've destroyed the robot, go to the panel to the right of the
elevator. Save. Use the panel and click on the top floor. Tuck
yourself well in, turning slightly towards the door. When the door
opens, let fly at the robot you will see to the left. You should be
able to destroy it without any trouble. Now you have to set your
shots moving in all directions by aiming at the inside edge of the
left elevator door (while staying where you are, out of harm's way)
in order to destroy all the other robots. Just because you've
destroyed the two visible ones does not mean you are safe. There
are others. You can move minimally out to get a better view, but
don't expose yourself. Once more, keep trying. You should be able
to see all the robots from the safety of the elevator - direct your
shots so that you destroy them all. You might need to advance out a
little and to the right to destroy the last one. Now walk around
the elevator shaft to the right and you'll come to a guy. Turn to
combat and punch him a couple of times till he fixes the big gun for
you. When he does so, use it and shoot down both the ships which
will come by. If you do it right, you'll be OK. At the end, you
can kill the guy or let him be, it's up to you. Back to the
Elevator.

FLOOR 3
-------

Walk to the other end of the elevator. Use panel and go to floor
3. Again, keep well inside of the right hand side of the elevator
door. This time, step back a bit and aim the blaster at the actual
panel. The beam should bounce onto the robot - keep shooting till
you destroy it. Go forth and ignore the door to the left. Go to
the door on the right, put down the blaster and use the panel.
Enter the room. Watch the sequence.

Pick up the healing device. Look around everywhere. Don't kill
Dane, there is no point. Leave and go to the room at the far end.
Make straight for the guard on the platform, fight him and kill
him. Get his log and read it. Look at all the monitors here; you
will get the code for the reactor - don't step on the platform yet.

Go down the stairs and look at the monitors to the left. You can
control the forklift robot. Manoeuvre him out of this room and into
the reactor room (almost opposite the first room you went through).
Keep going till you come to a robot on the bridge and use the
forklift (arrows on the top right hand corner of the screen) to
shove him over. You lose it in the process. Press Power to exit
the screen.

Now turn around and go to the other side of the room. Use the
monitors to get the info and also to get down to the Icarus. Fight
the guard and get the walkie-talkie. Go left around the ship and
get the alien cube. Walk right around to the front of the ship and
get the battery off it. Go and step on the platform to go up again.
Go towards the stairs, use the battery. Drop your old one here.
Move up the stairs and stand on the platform, where you get encased
in a special suit. Here! Where is my head? Has anyone seen it?
Right, now you can go out.

Dressed like this, the guard outside won't bother you. Who would?
It helps to have a blaster - if you've lost yours you might find it
is worth your while to kill the guard and get his. Go to the
reactor room and, before you go through the second door, save. Now,
the next sequence is extremely difficult.

Go through the door, go to the panel by the bridge and use it. A
platform will appear. Run across it (Shift + forward arrow) and,
when on the other side of the bridge, turn to your right and run to
the red column - standing right up to it, use it to pull one of the
pylons out. If you can't manage this before the monster catches up
with it, run to the other lever opposite; you only need to use one
lever just now. When done, run around the beast and across to the
other side of the bridge - before you go, make him mad by shooting
at him a couple of times. It should follow you and you should be
able to activate the panel so that the platform disappears and the
monster is killed. Activate the panel again immediately, run across
once more, use the other lever to get the pylon out, then click on
the console and enter the code (125, in my case) to enable the power
button. Press that and all should be well... with a few seconds to
spare. In all this, your movements should be accurate to the last
pixel and your fingers, greased lightning.

That's all for now, more (I hope) soon.
